My final full piece. This image was a metaphor for my state of mind when I decided to move on from this genre. I saw it get cluttered. Too many glitz and glam and not enough truth and real illustration. From poorly conceived planets and bad compositing of illustrative objects in with ocean scenes, I lost my heart for it. I guess the biggest thing that hurt was how easily some found their way into the spot light because of the large and flashy. I can't count how many times I sat and stared at some "famous" pieces on this site and wondered how these passed as true illustrations. Knowing in my gut that if veteran professionals were to critique work for its nature many of the renowned would fall shamefaced.

So I packed my bags, kept my mouth shut and moved on in my work and goals.

I had to escape.

Thus my last dive into the world that is celestial illustration. Only time will tell if I have something left to give this genre. Until then may you enjoy my work as I intended it. May you see it with the true sense of mind that I had when I created what I saw in my imagination. ;)

Just because you don't believe, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

beautiful work! it's a shame to loose an artist of your caliber in a field that although is flooded with art, isn't necessarily flooded with great art.

I went with a similar concept with my "Escape." You have a much more radiant golden ambience to yours. It's gorgeous, easily one of my favorites!
Denial ain't just a river in Egypt. It is when you're trying to 'escape' though ;D.

I've always been facinated with the spacescape genre. The images beamed back from NASA space probes have given us just a glimpse of the possabilities that may exist, and yet leaves our imaginations starved for more. It takes some guts to give everyone else a black eye while sounding a bit like a prima donna, but perhaps you deserve to critiqe others more than anyone else (you do set the bar pretty high though). Nice way to go out... By bringing us all back down to Earth.
